With the understanding that history plays an indispensable role in shaping our future, The center borrows the ‘Travaux’ model which has been adopted by the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law (CIPIL) in interpreting and understanding the history of legislation in Europe. Through partnership with different national law report commissions, we envision adopting this model in the African perspective by creating a database of the travaux preparatoires in respect of national IP-centered statutory legislations.
Indeed, for a consultancy and research center that concerns itself with international legal research, the importance of the Afro-IP Law Travaux cannot be overstated. This database enables the centre to carve out a niche for itself in international legal research and interpretation as our researchers and consultants are privy to materials and literature which elucidate the ‘drafters’ intent.’
